Rainbow Sprouts Winter/Spring 2026: Eight Saturdays of Belonging in Aurora

Written by on December 17, 2025

Registration is open now for Youth Outlook’s Rainbow Sprouts series, no-cost, family-friendly sessions for LGBTQ+ children in grades K–6 and their caregivers from January 10 through April 25 in Aurora.

A craft table filled with busy hands, a game that keeps prompting giggles, and a quiet corner where a child can take a breath if their feelings get big. Nearby, caregivers chat with the easy relief of not having to translate or explain their family to anyone.

That’s the heart of Rainbow Sprouts, Youth Outlook’s program created to meet young LGBTQ+ children where they are and offer affirming support for both children and the adults who love them. Beginning January 10th, Rainbow Sprouts is back in Aurora for a season built around joy, belonging, and practical skills that travel with families long after the session ends.

A safe, affirming space for children and caregivers

Rainbow Sprouts is designed for LGBTQ+ children in grades K–6, along with their families and friends. Sessions are led by licensed social workers and built to be age-appropriate, welcoming, and supportive. For children, that can look like creative activities, movement, games, and guided conversations that help them build confidence and connection. For caregivers, it’s a space to connect, share, and ask questions with people who truly get it.

For many families, finding a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth can feel surprisingly hard, especially for younger children. Rainbow Sprouts is one way Youth Outlook helps close that gap as part of our broader Illinois LGBTQ youth services across northern and central Illinois, offered both in person and virtually.

Spring 2026: Eight Saturdays of connection in Aurora

Rainbow Sprouts meets every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 1:00–3:00 PM in Aurora, with no cost to attend. The Winter/Spring 2026 series includes eight sessions, each with a theme that supports social-emotional growth and belonging:

January 10: Managing Big Emotions

January 24: Inclusion & Equality

February 14: Valentine’s Day Party

February 28: Game Day

March 14: Healthy Friendships

March 28: Trans Day of Visibility

April 11: Celebrating Neurodiversity

April 25: Earth Day

This lineup is a great snapshot of what makes Rainbow Sprouts special: it’s fun and kid-centered, but it also takes young people seriously. Children get chances to build skills like emotional regulation and friendship-building, while also experiencing moments of celebration and pride that remind them they belong.

Caregivers can expect a program that’s welcoming, whether your family is just starting to find language for what your child is feeling, or you’ve been on this journey for a while and want more community. It’s also meaningful support for LGBTQ+ allies and parents who want to learn, connect, and show up with confidence.

A facilitator’s perspective

“As adults, we sometimes assume kids need a big speech or the perfect words,” one Rainbow Sprouts facilitator shared. “But what children need most is consistency and community. When a young person walks in and realizes they don’t have to edit themselves here, you can almost see their shoulders drop. Our goal is to help them build friendships, practice coping skills, and feel proud of who they are, while caregivers get the reassurance that they’re not doing this alone.”

That sense of “not alone” matters. Rainbow Sprouts is about more than a Saturday activity. It’s about creating a steady, affirming rhythm for families and helping young people experience what it feels like to be fully welcomed.
